The Rhodes Ahead

I was talking to one of our teachers and we were commenting on the Easter joy in our hearts.  It is so enlightening to hear the resurrection stories from The Bible at Mass.  Even though the weather hasn’t cooperated with spring temperatures, I can tell the joy is in the air. So many wonderful celebrations over the triduum and congratulations to all those who celebrated first Sacraments.

As we finish the year, we continue to plan for the next one.  CPS needs to find leads for the trunk or treat even and teacher appreciation committee (we can get lots of people to help – just need a lead).  Many hands make light work!

We are excited to have a spring book fair profiting our library collection this on April 10-12.

Thanks in advance for all the support of the Rule family - always amazed at how well you take care of each other.  Here is the email that was sent last week:

As you likely know, our hearts have been moved to prayer in support of Mrs. Victoria Rule, SHOJ Kindergarten teacher, as she and her family seek the best medical care for their  3 1/2 year old daughter Evie, who has been struggling with eating and breathing issues since birth.  We wanted to give you the avenue so many of you have asked for to provide financial assistance as the family experiences the ongoing medical costs. Though the heavens no doubt hear our prayers, we are excited to provide an additional show of support by doing a dress-down day on Monday, April 8th. Though maybe our teams are not in the NCAA Championship game, we thought our favorite college attire would still be appropriate.

Please use the link below to make your dress-down day donation.

As you may already know, there will be a partial solar eclipse on April 8th at 1:27pm, and we are preparing for a safe viewing experience here at Sacred Heart for our first through 8th graders. We have purchased 2024 CE/ISO Solar Eclipse certified safe shades for direct sun viewing to ensure the safety of our students during this event.

However, we understand that not all families may wish for their child to participate in the eclipse viewing. If you prefer that your child does not take part, please kindly send an email to your child's teacher with your request to opt out of the solar eclipse viewing activity. Remind your participating children the importance of following the teacher's safety instructions.

Please know, alternative arrangements will be made to ensure your child's supervision during the eclipse period.

Finally, the date has been corrected again (sorry) for the 2025 First Communion, it is April 26, 2025.

Our Next Virtue: Fortitude

Next week, our virtue of the week is Fortitude. Fortitude enables us to endure difficulties and pain for the sake of what is good. Sometimes doing the right thing is hard. For example, you might know that you need to spend time on your homework, but give in to doing something else like playing video games because it is too hard to make the effort. Fortitude helps us do what we know we should do.

Fortitude is one of the four cardinal virtues. The cardinal virtues are "hinges" - all the other virtues turn on these four. Fortitude is is so important because it gives us the courage we need to act virtuously in every instance.
